Fatal overdose at Mount Vernon residence

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Police and Fire departments responded to two suspected drug overdoses on Tuesday within two blocks of each other, one of them fatal.

At 5:50 a.m. Tuesday morning, a woman called 9-1-1 when she found Calib Lang, 35, wedged between a wall and the bed of an Ash Street home.

Efforts to pull Lang from his position between the wall and the bed to perform CPR were unsuccessful.

The Knox County Coroner’s office was on the scene around 7:30 a.m.

Later in the afternoon, two blocks to the north, Mount Vernon Police and Fire departments were called to a Hickory Street home on the report of 28 year old woman who overdosed. The woman’s mother made the phone call to 9-1-1.

The mother had been attempting to get into the home but according to the phone call obtained by the News, she was unable to get into the house.

The 28 year old woman was taken from the home and transported to Knox Community Hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Police reports have been requested but have not been submitted to the Mount Vernon News as of press time. The coroner has also been contacted.
