Mazzari is new Danville mayor

DANVILLE — Joe Mazzari has always wanted to serve his community. From helping out area organizations to becoming a village council member, Mazzari has helped his neighbors in Danville since moving there many years ago.

Now, he will get the ultimate opportunity to serve his village — as mayor of Danville.

“I’m very excited. I’ve always had this sense of trying to serve my community in some fashion. This will be another step in that possibility. I’m excited about embarking on this new adventure,” Mazzari said.

Mazzari beat out fellow councilman Joe Duncan, 111-46, in their bid to replace Bob Dile, who is stepping down as mayor after 16 years.

“I got a taste of things on village council and I learned a lot from Mayor Dile,” Mazzari said. “I got to understand the dynamics of running the village that many have not.”

Mazzari is looking forward to continuing the work Dile and the council has accomplished over the last several years. The village recently replaced its sewer plant and has been working on many other infrastructure issues such as water, sewer and stormwater lines.

He also wants to find a new home for the Danville Police Department and work with the county steering committee which is working on ideas to help improve villages.

“I want to take all that into account — find what makes Danville Danville, and how we can move forward and still be Danville,” Mazzari said. “I really looked up to my old employer, Judge (Jim) Ronk and what he represented. I try to mirror my engagements with others the same way he would. I think I can sit down and talk to anybody. That’s always what I’ll strive to do.”
