MOUNT VERNON — Enjoy an afternoon of poetry on Friday, Nov. 15, 5-6 p.m. at the Buchwald Center’s Schnormeier Gallery, downtown Mount Vernon, when David Sapp will give a reading titled “Portraits” in conjunction with an exhibition of his art and writing. An artist, writer and Mount Vernon Nazarene University alum, Sapp will exhibit his drawings and poetry, Nov. 4 through Dec. 6 in a show titled: “Drawing and Study, Poem and Draft.”
Sapp commented on the nature of the show: “This exhibition places drawing studies next to finished works of art and drafts of writing next to finished, published poems so that the viewer might discover and appreciate the development and realization of a work of art or a poem over time. It will show viewers how artists and writers initiate ideas and find final resolutions in works of art.”
Sapp is a 2018 recipient of an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award grant for poetry and received a 2018 Akron Soul Train Fellowship for visual art and poetry. He is a 2019 Pushcart Prize nominee. Sapp is a Professor of Art and the Director of the Little Gallery at Bowling Green State University, Huron.
