Schnormeier presents Nana Maison’s ‘Fragments’

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Schnormeier Gallery is proud to present Fragments, a solo exhibition by Nana Ekow Maison.

Fragments is an exhibition of multi-layered works with various principal shapes. Particularly spidery silhouetted human figures interact with symbols, all anchored within a neatly defined pictorial space expressed with the weaving of color in an obsessive urge similar to pointillism.

Maison grew up in Ghana, Africa. He is a member of the Fante tribe in the Central region of Ghana, a tribe known worldwide for the creation of the Asafo flags. Maison’s artwork remains true to his African nature, creating from a fundamental desire to convey his thoughts and feelings through visible formats that employ both spiritual impressions and realistic symbols of things in his daily encounters. He teaches part-time at Bradley University and is a senior instructor at the Peoria Riverfront museum.

The exhibition will open Oct. 4, at 1 p.m., with a gallery talk at the Schnormeier Gallery at 5 p.m., followed by a reception from 6-8 p.m. This exhibit will remain on display in the gallery through Oct. 31.

The Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU’s Buchwald Center. It is open Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Schnormeier gallery at artgallery@mvnu.edu.
