MOUNT VERNON — Presented by Jacki Mann RN, Founder of In the Circle of Life, a local nonprofit, this end-of-life education & awareness program will resume with its 2019-2020 series on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. and continues through May 2020. Kindred Hospice and Knox Community Hospital are the key sponsors of the series.
In the Circle of Life’s mission is to provide education and support services to guide individuals to a deeper understanding of the end-of-life to help transform their death into one of less fear and greater peace; and to help return death to its natural, sacred place. Discussion facilitator, Mann, is a certified hospice and palliative care nurse and end-of-life doula. She has over 30 years of home care and hospice nursing experience.
“Creating opportunities for the public to talk and learn about end-of-life, before they are forced to, is my approach for affecting change,” stated Mann.
Facing Death: Documentary & Discussion, the first class of the series scheduled on Aug. 20, examines the complicated reality of today’s modern medicalized death, offering intimate encounters of patients facing the prospect of dying in a way never imagined.
The remaining schedule of the series includes: Creating a “Good Death” Plan, Sept. 10; Chronic Illness Progression & Decline, Oct. 8; Integrative Therapies at the End-of-Life, Nov. 12; Ethical Issues at the End-of-Life, Feb. 11; Caring for the Dying, March 10; Comfort at the End-of-Life: Managing Pain & Shortness of Breath, April 14; Natural (Green) Burials, May 12 (to be held at the Kokosing Nature Preserve).
