Beer garden turns small profit, expected to return for 2020 fair

MOUNT VERNON — Overall, the Knox County Fair had a good week without much incident.

“It was a good fair, I only heard one complaint,” Dustin Beheler, president of the Knox County Fair Board said at the fair board’s meeting Wednesday.

Emily Hollis, treasure of the board, said that profits from the rides, gates, and side attractions were up from previous years. The overall final figures are still being complied after all the bills are paid out.

No real complaints were made to the board and according to the various committee heads, all the attractions went well.

The Friday night rodeo had a lot of good feedback and people seemed to like it, Beheler said.

The beer garden, the newest addition to the fair, made an overall profit of around $4,800 after all the costs were cleared by the board.

Matt Jones, a member of the Fair Board and who was partially in charge of overseeing the beer garden, said there were no big problems and it went over pretty well.

Hollis said the garden was pretty discrete to people even when told the location of the garden.

People were appreciative of the beer garden, Jones said; it gave them a place to drink.

The board talked about having the beer garden next year with a few changes.

The tentative time for next year’s fair was placed from July 25 to Aug. 1.
