MOUNT VERNON — Lady Amvets downed Service Welding Supplies by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday night.
Lady Amvets were able to jump out of the gates fast, scoring five runs in their first inning at the plate. The inning was highlighted by Emma Stokes’ line drive shot into the outfield for an RBI.
“We put our fast girls out front,” said Amvets coach Ben Neiderhouser. “In this league you let them have a little fun, let them run a little bit. These girls are smart.”
Casner took on pitching responsibilities in the bottom second and kept Lady Amvets off the board, striking out one. Service Welding managed to bring home another runner in the top of the third, and trimmed the deficit to 5-3.
Amvets, though, broke the game open with another solid inning in the bottom of the third, scoring four additional runs highlighted by speedy base running.
Service Medical took another shot to inch their way into the ball game, but after one run and a few base hits they reached three outs, ending the game due to time restrictions.
For Service Welding Supplies this game has shown they have made improvements.
“The first time we played this game they beat us 22-9,” said coach Jeremey Lang. “Losing 9-5 means we’re improving, I’m super proud of them.”
Service Welding Supplies is scheduled to play this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. against Complete Comfort Heating & Cooling, and Lady Amvets will face off CQ Construction this Thursday at 6 p.m.
