MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was arrested and jailed after allegedly making threats while possessing a firearm while awaiting sentencing on a similar offense in another county.
Jesse J. Hammons, 34, is charged in Mount Vernon Municipal Court with having weapons under disability, a felony of the third degree, after he was taken into custody when he was intoxicated and allegedly threatened to shoot a horse in the 23000 block of Blanchard Road in Knox County, May 26.
He had previously pleaded guilty in Holmes County Common Pleas Court to discharging a firearm on or a near prohibited premises, a third-degree felony, and improperly handling of a firearm, a felony of the fourth degree.
In the previous incident, Hammons had an argument with another man involving a post on Facebook about horses. Hammons then confronted the man near a residence on U.S. 62 and fired between five and seven shots, missing the other man but hitting a car and a horse trailer.
Hammons is awaiting sentencing in Holmes County in the earlier case on June 20.
The investigation in the most current incident is still pending. He is currently in custody at the Knox County Jail.
