Brinkhaven man charged with felony DUI

MOUNT VERNON — A Brinkhaven man was charged with felony OVI by the Knox County grand jury Monday.

J-Ro L. Sharp, 35, was indicted on four charges; operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a fourth-degree felony; failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony; driving under financial responsibility law suspension or cancellation, an unclassified misdemeanor and open container, a minor misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident May 18 where Sharp allegedly tried to elude a law enforcement officer during a traffic stop.

Sharp was spotted by Lt. Mark Perkins in the village of Danville, who recognized him and attempted to pull him over. The two engaged in a short pursuit before Sharp crashed his vehicle on Ohio 204 outside of the village, according to County Prosecutor Chip McConville.

It was determined that Sharp was driving with a suspended license and was allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol, which is his fourth violation overall and first felony. He had previously been convicted of OVI in Feb. 18, 2003, again in May 29, 2009 and in June 19, 2009.
