Peebles in Mount Vernon will be transitioning to a new store, Gordmans, this summer. Gordmans and Peebles are owned by the same parent company, Stage Stores.

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Peebles store will close and be replaced by a Gordmans department store in the current location, parent company Stage Store said Monday.
Stage Stores spokesperson Jenny Clifton reported Monday in a statement that “Stage Store is converting the Mount Vernon Peebles location to a Gordmans this summer.” Clifton said Stage Stores is opening 74 Gordmans across the country this spring and summer, beginning in March. The Mount Vernon Peebles will be one of 36 stores scheduled to open this summer, Clifton said.
The transition from Peebles to Gordmans is expected to occur in mid-June, according to information presented at the Mount Vernon store. The store is currently having a sale, but will continue to stock new merchandise through the next three months. The store will close for several days to make the transition.
There are currently no Gordmans in Ohio, according to Gordmans website, gordmans.com. The closest Gordmans stores are located in Indiana; most of the stores are located in the Great Lakes region and in states west of the Mississippi.
Clifton describes Gordmans as having “bigger deals and smaller prices.” The move to Gordmans from Peebles is driven by Stage Stores’s seeing a trend by its customers for “off-price offerings,” Clifton said in the statement.
“Gordmans, which has delighted shoppers for more than 100 years, has fresh new merchandise deliveries arriving weekly; there will always be something new to discover when it comes to name brand apparel, home decor, footwear, gifts, accessories, fragrances and more for the family,” Clifton said.
Employees of Peebles at the Mount Vernon store will be offered jobs at Gordmans. [ee]
