The Gambier Community Library has been undergoing a significant upgrade in facilities under the leadership of recently appointed Branch Manager Cindy Dean. With support from Gambier Village Council and her husband Doc, Cindy has painted, replaced ceiling tiles, and redecorated the Childrens’ section of the Library. The coup de gras in Cindy’s plan for Gambier is her vision for a new circulation desk. Under Cindy’s leadership, the project came together with enthusiastic support from all parties involved.
Author Martin to kick off book discussion on May 10

Writer Lee Martin is a bit of a legend, although you’d never know it by his relaxed, friendly demeanor and love of goofy puns. The author of over a dozen books, he is a Pulitzer-Prize nominee, a Distinguished Professor of English at the Ohio State University, and he’ll be at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County on Tuesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. to talk about his latest novel: "Yours, Jean."

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County wraps up its NEA Big Read program on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. with a free performance from Toledo’s award winning ballet folklorico group, “El Corazon de Mexico” at the historic Woodward Opera House in Mount Vernon.
Poet to appear for library's Big Read Program

Acclaimed poet Sara Borjas visits Knox County on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. as part of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County’s NEA Big Read program. Writers of all ages and interests are invited to the Brown Family Environmental Center for “An Afternoon With Sara Borjas,” which will include a reading of Borjas’ work, and the opportunity for local poets to participate in a generative poetry writing workshop that explores what Borjas describes as “the power of imagination in poetry.” Borjas adds, “I’m excited to come to Ohio to learn from people, connect with community members and see what people are writing about. Being a regional poet, place is incredibly central to who I am as a writer… I am eager to discover how places make people who they are.”

Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County wins 'Communities for Immunity' grant

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County has been awarded a Communities for Immunity grant of $37,852. The Library will use these funds to improve public health by engaging communities in COVID-19 vaccine confidence through education, access, and community conversations. The Library is honored to be one of fifty museums and libraries to receive a grant, and one of only four institutions in the entire country to receive an award of this size. The project will be a collaboration involving the Library, Knox Public Health, Knox Pages, the Ohio Eastern Star Home, New Directions and Knox Community Hospital.
