The Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education approved contracts for eight new substitute teachers.

Columbia Elementary School students will be able to visit a Book Fair on Tues. Oct. 23 and Wed. Oct. 24 during the school day, to browse items they have interest in purchasing.

The Mount Vernon High School swimming and diving team will next compete at a dual meet against Big Walnut High School, Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Kenyon College.

Mount Vernon loses nail-biter to Newark, 35-34. It was a tight matchup between Mount Vernon and Newark on the gridiron on August 26, and while Mount Vernon held a fourth quarter lead, Newark scored in the final frame to edge out a 35-34 win. The loss puts Mount Vernon at 1-1.

Families in the Mount Vernon City Schools district need to register for an Instant Connect account to assure they get messages from the school system.

The Mount Vernon Board of Education will hold a "Special Board Meeting" this Friday, Dec. 17, at 8 a.m. This meeting will be held at MVCSD Central Office located at 300 Newark Road.

The Mount Vernon High School Homecoming Bonfire took place Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7 pm at the softball fields.
