Fredericktown basketball: Compete every day, focus on process

Last season, the Fredericktown Freddies boys basketball team went 6-6 in conference play and 12-13 overall last season, falling narrowly in a playoff matchup vs. the Utica Redskins. Heading into the 2022-2023 season, Fredericktown’s men’s basketball team is bringing back some of its top players, and looks like a dangerous team in the Knox Morrow Conference.

1972 Fredericktown High School graduate Curtis Reppart was that rare talent who excelled in the three most popular sports of the era: football, basketball, and baseball. Reppart played quarterback and defensive back on the football team, point guard on the basketball team, and shortstop the Freddie’s baseball squad.

Edison charges on an error in extras to put Freddies’ lights out, 5-4. An eighth-inning error resulted in a walk-off victory for Edison, to end Fredericktown’s season. Fresh from a 3-1 OHSAA Division 3 District Final victory over the Amanda-Clearcreek Aces, the Freddies (20-7) met Edison (23-8) at Elida High School in the Division-3 Regional semi-final June 2 and fell to the Chargers, 5-4.

Freddies score early to fold the Aces, 3-1. Fredericktown scored three runs in the first and never looked back as they took down Amanda-Clearcreek, 5-1, in the OHSAA Division 3 District Final, May 25, to move on to the Regionals. The Freddies’ three-of-a-kind was more than the Aces could handle, as Amanda-Clearcreek fell to 18-7 on the season and Fredericktown improved to 20-6.
Streby, Zoldak run away from field; Jacket boys, girls dominate Fredericktown Invitational

Nathan Streby of East Knox ran away from the men in the 800-meter run and Mount Vernon’s Sophie Zoldak did the same to the women in the 3200, as 16 local teams squared off at the Fredericktown track meet, on the Freddies’ track, April 29.
