Knox County Department of Job & Family Services is continuing to recognize community partners and individuals who assist in reaching the agency’s mission of making the lives of children and families better.

Mount Vernon City Schools Summer Food Program will be providing free lunch for students18 months to 18 years, come and get it! Meals must be eaten on site.

This year the Centerburg American Legion will present a special Memorial Day program on May 30 at 11 am.

It’s a joyful, toe-tapping Memorial Day Weekend tradition. Once again, the Knox Community Jazz Orchestra will kick off the summer concert series at Ariel Foundation Park. The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30, with Dave Bevington, a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, as parade grand marshal.

Police Chief Robert Morgan told City Council that his department was fully staffed, which cut overtime pay enough to help drop payroll expenses by $21,000 compared to this time last year.

On Thursday May 26, the Chautauqua Series presents Susan Kahrl as ErmaBombeck humorist who achieved great popularity for her newspaper humor column describing suburban home life, syndicated from 1965 to 1996. She also published 15 books, most of which became bestsellers.The program will be at the Grand Hotel, 12 Public Square in downtown Mount Vernon, at 7 p.m.

Chancy E. Blair Jr., 78, of Mount Vernon passed away on May 21, 2022, at Country Court. He was born on May 31, 1943, in Mount Vernon.
