Mt. Vernon Civil Air Patrol announces cadet promotions, adult achievement awards

Cadets in the Civil Air Patrol’s Capt. Peter Chapman II Composite Squadron (OH-299) in Mount Vernon have been promoted this month.

"The Capt. Peter Chapman II Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, is pleased to announce the following cadet promotions for the month of July 2026," the press release stated.

According to the same release, four cadets have advanced in rank within the squadron. The promotions were announced on July 17. 

Cadet Airmen Neomi Hoskins and Abigail Hudson advanced to Cadet Airmen 1st Class after completing the General Hap Arnold Achievement. At the same time, Cadet Staff Sergeants Jenna Jurkowitz and Benjamin Steele earned promotion to Cadet Technical Sergeants through the Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker Achievement.

In addition to cadet achievements, several adult members received the Civil Air Patrol Achievement Award for outstanding duty performance from outgoing unit commander CMSgt Craig Cox.

Those honored included 1st Lt. Kimberly Cox, 2nd Lt. Harrison Lingel, 1st Lt. John Morgan, Capt. Ronald Winget, and SM Daniel Wilson.

Founded in 1941, Civil Air Patrol serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. It operates the world’s largest fleet of single-engine aircraft for search and rescue, disaster relief, training, and education. CAP continues to focus on serving communities, saving lives, and shaping futures through its programs and missions.

The Capt. Peter Chapman II Composite Squadron meets every Monday at 6 p.m. at the Knox County Airport terminal building. The Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12–18, while adult volunteer opportunities are also available. For more information, contact 1st Lt. John Morgan at 740-263-1664.
