Local creativity will take center stage at the Art at the Park Artist Reception on July 10 in Mount Vernon, as the CA&C Visitor Center hosts a summer showcase of art, live music, and community spirit.
Hosted at 501 South Main Street, the reception is free and open to the public, offering attendees the chance to meet participating artists, enjoy live music, and sample food from local trucks while exploring the exhibition.
The event highlights Knox County’s creative spirit by showcasing works from the community art competition and launching the Community Choice Award voting. This vibrant exhibition showcases a diverse range of artwork from emerging and established artists across three categories: 2‑D, 3‑D, and Multimedia. Beginning Thursday, July 10, and continuing through August, residents can cast votes for their favorite pieces. Final awards will be determined by a panel of judges representing area institutions, including Margaret Allotey‑Pappoe, Christina Biggarstaff, and Robin Nordmoe, according to the event details posted on Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau's website.
“Art at the Park is a wonderful celebration of our local creative community,” Olivia Toth, Executive Director of the Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau, said.
Toth highlighted the inclusive spirit behind the reception, inviting the entire community to take part.
“We want to welcome everyone—families, neighbors, and visitors alike—to come out, enjoy some great music and creativity, and help us celebrate the incredible artistic talent we have right here in Knox County.”
The evening will feature live entertainment from the Fat Tuesday Trio, whose upbeat performance will set the tone for the festivities. Food trucks will provide a variety of dining options, creating a lively, family-friendly environment. The competition’s grand finale will take place later this summer at the annual Mount Vernon Music & Arts Festival, where juried winners and the Community Choice Award recipient will be announced on stage.
Presented by the Knox County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Art at the Park underscores the CVB’s mission to promote Knox County as a destination for unique experiences and cultural engagement. The CVB operates from the historic CA&C Visitor Center, continuing to support events that showcase the county’s character and creativity.
