Soroptimist International of Mount Vernon and Knox County announced its 2025 Live Your Dream awards have been presented to Brianna Williams and Kelley McGruder. The award provides financial assistance to women who are the primary wage earners for their families, helping them offset costs related to higher education.
Brianna Williams received the first-place award. Williams works with young adults on career development as the Emerging Talent Coordinator with Aspyr, the workforce board of Central Ohio. She is completing her associate’s degree in political science at Columbus State Community College this year and plans to transfer to John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University for a bachelor’s degree in public management, leadership, and policy. Williams is also a mother of two children, one recently diagnosed with type-1 diabetes.
Kelley McGruder was named second-place winner. McGruder is a hair stylist who studies business administration at Columbus State Community College. She is working toward her associate’s degree with plans to continue at The Ohio State University for a bachelor’s degree. McGruder aims to use her education to expand her business by training, recruiting, and becoming a brand ambassador. In addition to work and study commitments, she participates in church activities, attends the gym regularly, and supports her 18-year-old son in his sports events.
The Live Your Dream Awards were presented during the EmpowHER event sponsored by New Directions, the domestic abuse shelter for Knox County.
Soroptimist International of Mount Vernon and Knox County is part of Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization that offers women and girls access to education and training needed for economic empowerment. The local club supports area women through financial awards and educational programs.
