Four adult volunteers with the Civil Air Patrol Knox County Airport Cadet Flight received state and regional awards at the recent Civil Air Patrol Ohio Wing Conference, which took place at the Cherry Valley Hotel in Newark from April 24 to 26, according to a May 7 announcement.
Chief Master Sergeant Craig Cox, who serves as flight commander and Ohio Wing Senior Enlisted Leader, received both the Ohio Wing Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Award and the Civil Air Patrol Great Lakes Region Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Award. The Great Lakes Region includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Other award recipients included First Lieutenant Kimberly Cox, who received the Ohio Wing Administrative Officer of the Year Award; First Lieutenant John Morgan, who was awarded the Ohio Wing Colonel Robert (Bud) Payton Public Affairs Officer of the Year Award; and Senior Member Daniel Wilson, who received the Ohio Wing Frank G. Brewer Sr. Memorial Aerospace Education Award.
The Knox County Airport Cadet Flight meets every Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the Knox County Airport terminal building. The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12 to 18 and focuses on leadership, aerospace education, physical fitness, and character development.
