Police And Kids United (PAK United) in Mount Vernon has unveiled its 2026 calendar, offering a year‑long slate of family‑friendly activities designed to strengthen ties between law enforcement and the community.

The program blends recreation, celebration, and engagement, ensuring there’s something for residents of all ages throughout the year.

The schedule kicked off on April 15 with a metal detecting activity at Ariel‑Foundation Park, giving kids and families a chance to explore the outdoors in a hands‑on way. Next up is Kids to Parks Day on May 16, also at Ariel‑Foundation Park, where families can enjoy games, activities, and community interaction. June 20 brings a unique highlight: Hank’s fifth birthday bash at Hidden Goat Ranch, a playful nod to local charm.

Mount Vernon’s Fourth of July celebration at Ariel‑Foundation Park anchors the summer, followed by an afternoon of fun at Riverside Park and Captain Hunter’s Splashpad on July 23. August and October events remain to be announced, with organizers encouraging residents to follow PAK United’s social media pages for updates.

September 19 marks one of the most anticipated traditions: the Heroes Softball Game at the MVNU Softball Field. Running from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the tournament features first responders competing in the fourth annual showdown, giving the community a chance to cheer on local heroes in a spirited contest.

Fall and winter activities round out the calendar. On November 12, Summit Axe hosts an axe‑throwing event from 5 to 7 p.m., offering a mix of recreation and camaraderie. December 14 closes the year with Mrs. Claus’ Workshop at The Woodward, a festive evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that brings holiday cheer to families.

In addition to these scheduled events, PAK United will also appear at “Touch‑A‑Truck” during First Friday celebrations in downtown Mount Vernon across the summer months of June through September. These appearances provide children with hands‑on experiences with police and emergency vehicles, reinforcing the group’s mission of building trust and connection.

PAK United (Police and Kids United) is a Mount Vernon Police Department program designed to build positive relationships between officers and local youth. Started in 2021 by School Resource Officer Jeremiah Armstrong, it hosts year‑round activities like kickball, fishing, and dodgeball, fostering trust, engagement, and community support.

It grew out of an earlier Mount Vernon Police initiative known as “Kickball with the Cops.” Fittingly, the program’s first official event was a kickball game held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on July 22, 2021, according to go.lawpublications.net.
