Several cadets from the Knox County Airport Cadet Flight, Civil Air Patrol, received promotions during a ceremony held on March 2 at the Knox County Airport, according to a March 11 announcement.

The promoted cadets—Benjamin Steele, Jenna Jerkowitz, Lukas Yarman, and Seth Yarman—advanced to Cadet Senior Airman after completing the Mary Feik Achievement. The achievement is named after Civil Air Patrol Colonel Mary Feik, who was recognized as a pioneer in aircraft engineering and mechanics and served as an expert on military aircraft during World War II.

The Knox County Airport Cadet Flight meets every Monday evening at 6 PM at the airport terminal building. The Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program is open to youth ages 12-18 and focuses on leadership, aerospace education, physical fitness, and character development.

Civil Air Patrol was founded in 1941 and became the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force seven years later. It operates as a nonprofit organization chartered by Congress for youth development and aerospace education. In its auxiliary role with the Air Force, it manages what it describes as the world’s largest fleet of single-engine aircraft for search and rescue, disaster relief, training, and education.

For more information about the Cadet Program or adult volunteer opportunities, interested individuals are encouraged to contact 1st Lt. John Morgan at 740-263-1664 or visit GoCivilAirPatrol.com.
