The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a 24-year-old Mount Vernon man died in a single-vehicle crash on Feb. 14 on Sunset Street at Walnut Alley in Mount Vernon.
The incident involved Dylan Severns, who was driving a Kawasaki KX100 dirt bike northbound on Walnut Alley at approximately 10:53 p.m. As the dirt bike approached the intersection of Sunset Street, it traveled off the north side of the roadway and struck a utility pole guy wire. According to a media release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Severns was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and alcohol or drugs are suspected factors.
Severns was transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS, where he later died from his injuries. According to Lt. Coby L. Holloway of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, emergency services responded promptly to the scene.
The Mont Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. Its troopers were assisted on scene by the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon City Fire/EMS, and On the Spot Towing. The crash remains under investigation, according to an official release.
No further details have been released as authorities continue their investigation.
