Jack Edward Hunnicut | Provided

Jack Edward Hunnicut, 87, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Avita Hospital in Bucyrus, Ohio with his daughter, Susan Lind and his son-in-law, Tom Lind by his side. He was born September 29, 1938, in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Nora Trimble Hunnicut. His adopted father was Nora’s husband, Glenn Hunnicut. Jack grew up in Ashland but moved to Mount Vernon in the fall of 1955.

By 1960, Jack had met and married Doris Jane Harris, his wife of 43 years prior to her passing in 2003. They met at the A&W Root Beer stand on Wooster Road and immediately became an unbeatable team. Together they jointly owned and operated, for a period of time, a gas station, a golf course (Hidden Hills), and Honey Buckets Taverns on Columbus Road and on Mount Vernon Ave. Over the years, Jack worked at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory, and for over ten years he worked on oil rigs in both the Gulf of America and Alaska.

Jack loved all sports and in his younger years was an excellent basketball player. As he aged, Jack took up  golf and became an excellent golfer as well. It goes without saying that a more ardent Buckeye fan could not be found.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Gayle Hunnicut, and a brother, Charlie.

He is survived by two sons, Mark (Elizabeth) Hunnicut, and Michael (Monica) Hunnicut both of Mount Vernon; a daughter Susan (Tom Lind) of Mansfield;  six grandchildren, Tiffany Hunnicut, Brittany Hunnicut, Brett Hunnicut, Chelsea Hunnicut, Andrew Richert and Madeline Muncie. He is also survived by one brother, Bill (Ann) of Indianapolis.

Jack Hunnicut was a genuinely good man who lived life to the fullest. He will be missed by friends and family alike.

The family will conduct a private memorial service with cremation and burial in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
