MTVarts has had a busy year, producing five shows with over 230 actors and crew members across more than 30 performances. The organization reported that over 9,100 people attended these events, including more than 3,000 students who viewed live performances for free.
Carrie Haver, President of MTVarts, expressed gratitude for the community's support: "I want to personally thank you for your involvement and your support—we rely on our community’s generosity to enable our impactful work."
The organization held multiple youth theatre classes and workshops throughout the year. These educational opportunities reached 170 students and focused on character development, choreography, vocal training, and technical education. Haver noted that these experiences help build confidence and poise in young participants.
A significant highlight was the world premiere of "Somerset Tavern," a new work by Daniel Mark Epstein. More than 400 high school students watched the show for free through MTVarts Classroom Connections in collaboration with the Knox County Education Service Center.
MTVarts also welcomed Hannah Marshall as an artist-in-residence. Her experience in New York City theatre has brought new energy to the organization.
In partnership with Nellie Six Productions and several veterans' organizations, MTVarts hosted The Resilient, a rock band made up mostly of severely wounded U.S. combat veterans. Veterans from all military branches except the Coast Guard and Space Force attended for free.
Janis Stone, business manager at MTVarts, received Experience Mount Vernon’s Walter Rudin Award. Artistic Director Bruce Jacklin is set to receive the William A. Stroud Jr. Award for Public Service at an upcoming gala.
The organization aims to deepen its community roots by working with a professional grant writer to access additional resources and partnering with the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium to enhance local arts experiences.
Haver encouraged continued support: "Your support has played a tremendous role in making all of these things possible." She invited donations to ensure MTVarts remains a leader in performing arts and education.
Looking ahead to their 20th anniversary in 2026, Haver shared her excitement about future plans: "Watch for an exciting season announcement coming soon!"
Upcoming productions include "Our Place" by Terry Wayne Gabbard and "The Yellow Wallpaper," adapted by Kathryn Funkhouser from Charlotte Perkins Gilman's story. These will be staged from February 27th to March 1st, 2026 at The Woodward Blackbox Theatre.
