In honor of Veterans Day, Mazza's Restaurant will offer a free spaghetti and meatball dinner to all veterans and active-duty military personnel on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The dine-in-only event will be held at the restaurant’s location, at 11587 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon.
The offer continues a tradition started by Joe Mazza Sr., who served returning World War II troops with a signature Mazza's spaghetti dinner. This has become a hallmark of the restaurant's commitment to honoring military service.
"As America honors the sacrifices of all those who serve and have served, Mazza’s will salute our armed forces with this free offer," the restaurant shared in a Facebook post promoting the event. "For all those who have served and your families, a very special thank you from Mazza’s!"
No reservations are required, but guests must present valid military identification to receive the complimentary meal. The offer is limited to one dinner per eligible customer and is available for dine-in only.
Founded in 1939, Mazza’s began as Mazza’s Terminal Café, named for the doorway that connected the original location to the local bus terminal. The café opened with 10 stools and four booths, serving homemade Italian meals to travelers and locals.
In 1945, the restaurant relocated to 214 West High Street, the same year Joe Mazza welcomed his four brothers home from World War II. That location operated for 69 years before closing in 2008.
Mazza’s reopened in 2018 at its current location, continuing its legacy of hospitality, tradition, and community engagement. The Veterans Day meal is part of the establishment's tradition of community engagement and appreciation for those who serve.
