Knox County Foundation has announced updates to its grant application procedures, aiming to enhance support for local nonprofits and streamline the process. These changes will be implemented with the 2026 Grant Cycles and are designed to provide clearer guidance for applicants while aligning more closely with community priorities.
A key change is the introduction of an Expression of Intent (EOI) form, which must be submitted by all applicants for Small and Major Grants before completing a full application. This form requires a brief project description, goals, objectives, and a simple budget overview. New applicants or those who have not previously received funding from the Foundation will also need to demonstrate local partnerships or connections that bolster their proposal. EOIs are due by the 15th of the month preceding each grant application deadline.
Lisa Lloyd, Senior Program Director for Knox County Foundation, explained, "The new Expression of Intent step allows organizations to share a brief overview of their project so we can confirm eligibility and provide early feedback." She emphasized that this step ensures applicants' efforts are well spent while helping the Foundation learn about community initiatives.
In addition to these procedural updates, the Foundation is launching a Summer Youth Enrichment Grant in 2026. This grant aims to reduce financial barriers for children and teens participating in summer and extracurricular programs. It covers costs such as scholarships, registration fees, and activity passes for youth from low-income or underserved backgrounds. Applications for this grant are due January 15 annually, without requiring an EOI form.
Organizations interested in applying can review updated guidelines and submit applications through the Foundation’s online portal at www.knoxcf.org under 'Grants and Scholarships'. Lloyd added, "Our goal is to make grantmaking more collaborative, transparent, and impactful."
