The Mount Vernon annual leaf pick-up service | City of Mount Vernon

The City of Mount Vernon is set to commence its annual leaf pickup service on Monday, November 3, 2025. The city will deploy three machines for the task, initially targeting main streets before moving to side streets and outlying areas. The plan includes two complete passes through the city during November.

City officials advise residents to rake leaves to the curb without pushing them into the street, as this can lead to clogged storm sewers. Additionally, leaves should not be raked around trees, fire hydrants, signposts, mailboxes, or near intersections.

Residents may notice machines being tested prior to the official start date. For those who prefer an alternative disposal method, the Knox County Yard Waste and Compost Facility offers a drop-off option for loose leaves at 7425 Thayer Road in Mount Vernon. This facility operates seven days a week but requires that all bags or containers be removed after emptying.

For further inquiries, citizens are encouraged to contact the Street Department at 740-393-9501.
