The Homer Public Library will hold a series of community events in October, highlighted by “Homer Homeschoolers: All About Weather” on Thursday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Library Meeting Room. Led by Miss Shaunta, the program is designed for preschoolers through high school students and will feature unit studies and interactive learning activities.
The homeschool program, offered on the second Thursday of each month, gives families an opportunity to supplement classroom learning with themed educational experiences. October’s focus on weather is expected to cover science-based lessons appropriate for multiple grade levels. Parents with questions are encouraged to contact program coordinator Shaunta Cunningham at the library by sending an email to scunningham@seolibraries.org.
In addition to the homeschool sessions, the library will host its October Story Time for preschool and early elementary students each Wednesday at 10 a.m. through the month. Sessions are scheduled for Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, with each lasting one hour. Story Time is a long-running program that introduces children to reading and storytelling through songs, interactive play and age-appropriate books.
The month’s programming will also include music. The Ukulele Association of Homer will meet at the library on Thursday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Library Meeting Room. The sessions welcome all ages, from preschoolers to seniors, and participants may bring their own instruments or borrow a ukulele from the group. An experienced player will be on hand to offer lessons to beginners.
