The Mount Vernon Fire Department will welcome residents to its annual Fire Prevention Open House on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Station 491 located at 200 W Gambier St, Mount Vernon. The free community event will feature fire station tours, safety demonstrations, hands-on activities for children, and an opportunity to meet local firefighters and paramedics.
"Join us for our Annual Fire Prevention Open House!" the Mount Vernon Fire Department shared its invitation to the community on Facebook.
The open house is designed to promote fire safety awareness while strengthening ties between the department and the community it serves. Families will have the opportunity to explore equipment, learn about emergency procedures, and participate in interactive activities designed to make safety education engaging for all ages. Children are invited to come dressed in their favorite costumes.
The event follows a series of community outreach efforts by the department earlier this fall. In early September, firefighters conducted fire extinguisher training for Landscape Design students at the Knox County Career Center, providing hands-on instruction in handling emergencies. The program, the department noted, was part of an ongoing effort to prepare young people with practical life skills and knowledge that can prove critical in real-world situations.
Recently, the department also announced it had received a grant from the Aladdin Shriners to purchase an additional FAST Rescue Board. The specialized equipment, used to enhance firefighter safety and improve the speed of rescues, represents an investment in both the department’s capabilities and the protection of Mount Vernon residents.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department is calling on the community to help raise awareness about its upcoming Annual Fire Prevention Open House.
“Help us spread the word by sharing this post. See you there!” the department added in its announcement.
