Experience Mount Vernon is set to host the 5th Annual Johnny Appleseed Fall Festival on Friday, October 3rd, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The event will take place on East Ohio Avenue between South Main Street and South Gay Street in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Peoples Bank of Gambier sponsors this family-friendly festival, which features music, food, and activities for all ages.
The evening's entertainment begins at 5:00 p.m. with performances by local elementary school students. Jim Stoner from the Mount Vernon Players and MadCap Living History will portray John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman at 5:30 p.m., sharing his legendary story. The Kenyon College Dance Department will offer a Hungarian dance tutorial at 5:45 p.m., followed by a performance by the Ohio Celtic Fiddlers at 6:15 p.m. Knox County Foundation sponsors the main stage entertainment.
Families can enjoy various activities such as animal encounters provided by Horse-N-Round Fun and games in the KidZone hosted by local Scouts. There will also be a pumpkin painting fundraiser by United Way of Knox County and face painting sponsored by Peoples Bank of Gambier.
Food options include the Knox Foodies Food Truck Trail presented by Glen Hill Orchards and seasonal products from Miller’s Farm Market. As an approved DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) event, attendees can purchase beer or wine from participating downtown establishments to enjoy during the festival.
