Stephanie Byrd Regional Chief Executive Officer | American Red Cross Central & Southern Ohio Region

In September, the American Red Cross Central & Southern Ohio Region is urging people to donate blood as part of National Preparedness Month. This initiative highlights the importance of having a steady supply of blood available for emergencies. The organization emphasizes that donors with O positive and B negative blood types are particularly needed.

Severe weather events can disrupt blood collections, leading to cancellations and affecting donor turnout. Additionally, trauma patients often require immediate transfusions upon arriving at emergency rooms. "Those who give now could help someone in dire moments," states the Red Cross.

To encourage donations, those who contribute by September 21 will receive a Red Cross x PEANUTS mystery bag containing one of four special T-shirt designs, while supplies last. A limited number of bags contain golden tickets redeemable for all four T-shirts through an online form. Donors giving platelets between September 22 and October 5 will also receive a classic sweatshirt featuring Snoopy as Joe Cool.

The Red Cross offers several ways to schedule donations: visiting their website at RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or using their Blood Donor App. All donors from September 22 to October 19 will receive a $10 Amazon.com Gift Card via email.

Upcoming donation opportunities are scheduled across various locations in Ohio throughout September. For more details on specific dates and venues, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Peanuts or RedCrossBlood.org/Fall.

The organization also encourages volunteering as blood donor ambassadors or transportation specialists to support their mission further. Volunteers play crucial roles in ensuring a positive donation experience and delivering blood products to hospitals.
