Mount Vernon Nazarene University's women's volleyball team, ranked No. 14, secured a victory in their first home match of the season against Rio Grande's Red Storm at Ariel Arena on August 27. The Lady Cougars started strong, winning the first set 25-10 and continued their momentum with a 25-17 win in the second set. Despite a comeback from Rio Grande in the third set, which they won 26-24, MVNU rallied to take the fourth set 27-25, clinching the match.
Key performances included Lilla Nicholas with 15 kills and Faith Maloney and Libby Evanshine each contributing 12 kills. Evelyn Brown added 11 kills and five blocks, while Jaelyn Tang led with 18 digs. Reagan Nuss recorded 36 assists, along with 17 digs and two blocks.
The team will next participate in the AMF Memorial Tournament hosted by Taylor University in Upland, Indiana on August 29-30. Their first game is scheduled against Campbellsville (Kentucky) at 1:30 p.m.
