Police Chief Robert Morgan | City of Mount Vernon

The Mount Vernon City Council approved a measure on August 25 authorizing the Safety-Service Director to dispose of 12 vehicles currently held in the Police Department's impound lot.

"Standard fare, like we've done many times before, the impound lot's getting a little full, we need to clear it out," said Mount Vernon Police Chief Robert Morgan during the council meeting. "The top two on there, the white Explorer, the white Tahoe, those are former police cars that have been taken out of service and replaced. The rest of them are vehicles that have been forfeited in the city."

Morgan further explained that most of these cars were in poor condition. The city aims to maximize their value, with proceeds directed towards maintaining the police department's fleet.

According to the meeting agenda, the list of vehicles includes two former police units: a 2020 white Ford Explorer and a 2019 white Chevy Tahoe. Other vehicles set for disposal include a 2011 gray Ford Fusion, a 1999 black Jeep Cherokee, a 2006 black motorcycle dirt bike, a 2001 black Honda CBR900, a 2015 silver Toyota Corolla, a 2008 silver Ford Fusion, a 2006 cream Mini Cooper, a 2001 burgundy GMC Sierra, and a 2007 dark blue Honda Accord.
