Ohio Magazine has named Mount Vernon as one of five standout locations in its annual Best Hometowns issue, set for release on November 1. Alongside Ashland, Barnesville, Green, and Yellow Springs, Mount Vernon is recognized as a great place to live, work, and visit.
The selection process involved nominations collected in the spring and visits conducted across Ohio during the summer. Editors assessed finalists based on six criteria: Community Spirit, Education, Entertainment, Health and Safety, Business Environment, and Culture and Heritage.
Mount Vernon was chosen for its historical significance, lively arts scene, and leadership focused on future planning while respecting its past. Each honored hometown will be featured in both the November/December 2025 and July/August 2026 issues of Ohio Magazine. The features will also appear online at ohiomagazine.com.
Communities receiving this recognition are encouraged to celebrate throughout the year. For more details or media inquiries about the Best Hometowns honor, contact editor Jim Vickers at jvickers@ohiomagazine.com. Information about previous honorees can be found at ohiomagazine.com/besthometowns.
