Mount Vernon Board of Education discusses plans and approves financial reports

The Mount Vernon Board of Education convened for its regular meeting on June 23, 2025, at the Energy Fieldhouse. The meeting began at 6:30 p.m., led by Mr. Tim Workman. Present were board members Ms. Rugula-Dye and Mr. Ward, with Mrs. Goetzman and Dr. Bennett joining later.

The board approved student handbooks for the upcoming school year along with administrative handbooks for various staff categories.

Dr. Bennett presented a Student Achievement Liaison Report, while Ms. Rugola-Dye moved to approve a band trip to Orlando and an annual Gifted Service Plan policy.

Financial matters addressed included approval of the May 2025 Financial Report and updated appropriations for fiscal years 2024-2025 and 2026, as well as fund transfers totaling $5,550,000.

Donations from Marla McCutchen and others were acknowledged, supporting school supplies and art materials.

Service agreements with Knox Educational Service Center (ESC) for St. Vincent Primary Services and other institutions were approved alongside wellness initiatives in collaboration with Nationwide Children's Hospital.

Personnel changes were extensive: salary adjustments for certificated/licensed staff were noted; new contracts issued; resignations accepted; retirements announced; and transfers detailed across several schools within the district.

The meeting concluded with an executive session regarding personnel matters before adjourning at 8:24 p.m., following a motion by Ms. Rugola-Dye seconded by Mr. Workman.
