The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County has announced a series of events for August 2025, offering a variety of programs for the community. These include film screenings, creative workshops, historical discussions, and more.
The "Spice of the Month" for August is Dill Weed, available from August 4 on the Main Circulation Floor. Each participant can receive one bag containing the spice, a recipe, and information about it.
Film enthusiasts can enjoy screenings such as "Jailhouse Rock" on August 5 and "Eddie and the Cruisers" on August 12 in the Multipurpose Room. A special round table discussion titled "The Return of Vinyl" will take place on August 19 with Phil from Fat Dog Vinyl sharing insights into the revival of vinyl records.
On August 20, local historian David Greer will present "Pauline Freeman, MD: The Life and Career of Danville's 'Unique Lady Doctor'," inviting attendees to share memories or listen to stories about Dr. Freeman.
The library also offers creative writing workshops under "All Write!" every Thursday evening starting August 7. Additionally, there will be a nonfiction book discussion on Tara Westover's memoir "Educated" on August 25.
For those interested in crafts, Adult Craft Night features glass tumbler painting on August 28. Registration is required at the Main Circulation Desk.
