Mount Vernon hosts dog-themed First Friday event with parade and entertainment

Downtown Mount Vernon is set to host the August First Friday event, themed "Dog Days of Summer," on August 1 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event, sponsored by Griffin Insurance, will feature live entertainment, food trucks, and activities for families and pets.

The WNZR Dog Costume Parade will be a highlight, with registration from 6:30-7:10 p.m. at Public Square and the parade starting at 7:15 p.m. Participants can register their dogs online to compete for prizes.

Live music will be provided by Hall & Eyer on the Experience Mount Vernon Main Stage. Additional activities and entertainment will take place at the Community Corner Stage, organized by the Mount Vernon Arts Consortium and New Directions.

Food enthusiasts can enjoy offerings from over ten vendors as part of the Knox Foodies Food Truck Trail. The MVNU Athletics KidZone will provide activities for children on Public Square. Emergency vehicles will be available for exploration in the Touch-a-Truck area on West High Street.

A free dog-themed photo booth and bicycle valet service will be available on West Gambier Street. Balloon artist Luke the Juggler will entertain attendees in front of Happy Bean Coffee.

Car enthusiasts can visit the A+ Autobrokers Cruise-In on Vine Street. Streets around downtown Mount Vernon will close to traffic starting at 3:30 p.m., with parking available in designated lots.
