MTVarts is set to present "9 to 5 The Musical" at the Woodward Opera House in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The production will run from Saturday, July 5 through Sunday, July 13. This musical comedy features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. It is based on the 1980 film that highlights themes of female empowerment and workplace camaraderie.
The story follows three female coworkers who devise a plan against their boss, Franklin Hart Jr., played by Ian Fraser Ernsberger. The characters Violet, Judy, and Doralee are portrayed by Megan Evans, Abigail Tayse, and Kylie Stadler Hoam respectively. As they navigate their work environment, they are joined by Caleb Gibbs as accountant Joe and Serra Austin as Hart’s assistant Roz.
The cast also includes Chase Tennant as Doralee's husband Dwayne; Norita Hissong, Caroline Pletcher, and Katie Dearth as secretaries Kathy, Margaret, and Maria; Aaron Moreland as Judy’s husband Dick; Zach Cramer as Violet’s son Josh; Nate Hoam as CEO Tinsworthy; along with an ensemble featuring several other performers.
Bruce Jacklin directs the production with choreography by Anthony Ingham and musical direction by Diane Dingler. David Schubach conducts a live band for the performances. The creative team includes scenic builders Nate Hoam, Michael Sears, Bill Szucs; costume designer Kristin VanValkenburg; sound engineer Alex Thompson; lighting designers Ian Fraser Ernsberger and Scott Swingle; production stage manager Samantha Marie Turner with assistant Ellen Hoam.
Tickets for the show range from $15 to $25 and can be purchased at the Woodward Opera House before each performance or online at MTVarts.com or MVAC.org. MTVarts is a non-profit community production company that also offers arts education through classes and workshops.
