Food For The Hungry has announced a $31,250 grant to support summer food programs aimed at reducing food insecurity across Knox County.

Since launching its summer grant program in 2020, Food For The Hungry has utilized funds raised beyond its Drive Goal to support local food efforts. In 2024, the organization raised over $342,000, exceeding its $330,000 target to fund programs assisting children and teens who rely on free or reduced-price school meals while also supporting other food projects.

"At Food For The Hungry, we remain unwavering in our commitment to support local food initiatives and our community, especially in these challenging times," said FFTH President Austin Swallow. Despite financial cuts that may impact their food pantry partners in Knox County and throughout Ohio, Swallow emphasized their dedication to ensuring that vulnerable individuals continue to receive necessary resources. He noted the increasing demand for assistance and said they are focused on finding innovative solutions to maximize the impact of donations.

According to Food For The Hungry (FFTH), they awarded $31,250 in grants to 16 local groups. These include organizations such as the Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center of Knox County, Central Christian Church Food Pantry, and Interchurch Social Services. The grants support various efforts including emergency food aid, meal programs for students and seniors, summer lunch services, and food pantries throughout Knox County.

"As the year goes on," Swallow continued, "FFTH will continue to monitor the situation and will stand firm in our resolve to help our neighbors." He expressed confidence that together they would ensure that food insecurity does not define the future of Knox County.
