A fatal crash in Clinton Township is under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. | Ohio State Highway Patrol

A Centerburg man has died following a single-vehicle accident on State Route 229 in Clinton Township, Knox County. The incident occurred at 12:51 a.m. on Monday, May 26.

According to an Ohio State Highway Patrol news release by the Mount Gilead Post, Ryan Carlisle, aged 35, was driving a 2016 Ram 3500 westbound on State Route 229 near milepost 7 when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway and struck several utility poles. Zachary White, aged 32 and also from Centerburg, was a front-seat passenger.

The release said that Carlisle sustained minor injuries and was taken to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS. White was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office, Mount Vernon Police Department, and Mount Vernon Fire/EMS assisted at the scene. The release indicated that alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
