Herren helps Centerburg Softball overcome Madison Plains

Abby Herren hit two home runs and drove in five runs as the Centerburg Varsity Trojans defeated the Madison Plains Varsity Eagles 18-9 on Monday. Herren homered in both the second and fifth innings.

According to the game summary, both offenses were strong at the plate, with Centerburg collecting 16 hits and Madison Plains securing 14 in this high-scoring affair. The Trojans took an early lead in the top of the first inning after Herren singled, scoring one run. Taylor Bryant also singled, adding another run, followed by an error that scored one more. Sydnee Schoonover hit a sacrifice fly, driving in three runs.

In response, Kenzie Vallery homered to left field for Madison Plains, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Centerburg extended their lead by scoring six runs on six hits in the top of the second inning. Herren's homer to right field brought in two runs, Harley Webb hit a solo home run to center field, Kayla Ferrell homered to center field for two more runs, and Lexie Moore singled to score another run. Alyssia Mullins responded with a solo home run to left field for Madison Plains.

Ferrell continued her strong performance with another home run to center field in the top of the fourth inning for Centerburg.

The Trojans added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning through home runs by Herren and Jazmyn Larimore.

Morgan Beaver earned the win for Centerburg by surrendering 14 hits and nine runs (eight earned) over seven innings while striking out seven and walking two. Joy McLoughlin took the loss for Madison Plains after pitching two innings and giving up 12 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.

Centerburg accumulated 16 hits during the game. Leadoff hitter Moore led with four hits from five at-bats. Both Herren and Ferrell hit multiple home runs for Centerburg. Larimore, Bryant, Webb, and Ferrell each collected multiple hits as well.

Madison Plains managed 14 hits throughout the game. Vallery led their lineup with three RBIs while going 4-for-5 on the day. Matty Long, Isabella Wilson, and Mullins also contributed multiple hits for Madison Plains.
