The Knox County Historical Society will host a presentation on the life and career of Lizzie Evans, a once-celebrated actress and vaudeville star from Mount Vernon. Dr. Michael Sherfy will lead the event on May 7 at 7:30 pm at the society's location on Harcourt Road.

Dr. Sherfy, who serves as the Local History Specialist at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, has conducted extensive research into Evans' career, which spanned from the 1880s until her death in the early 1920s. He also holds positions as an instructor at Central Ohio Technical College and as an affiliated scholar at Kenyon College.

Evans was known for her performances on Broadway and in Chicago theaters. Despite her fame, she maintained connections with Mount Vernon, occasionally performing at the Woodward Opera House.

The program is free to attend and open to the public. Visitors are welcome to explore the museum for half an hour before and after the presentation. Those interested in local history are encouraged to join. For further details, contact the museum at 740-393-5247.
