Kenyon College has announced a significant $25 million donation from financial technology entrepreneur Matthew Voorhees. This contribution will support a new initiative aimed at connecting interdisciplinary learning with practical experiences to prepare graduates for leadership roles in an evolving world.
According to Kenyon College, the institution offers students various opportunities to explore diverse interests, including writing, coding, athletics, and science. The college provides a connected curriculum across 50 majors, minors, and concentrations that encourages interdisciplinary learning. Kenyon meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for admitted students and considers all applicants for merit scholarships. Its graduates are noted for their success, with strong representation in Fulbright Fellowships and STEM doctorate programs. Kenyon College is located in Gambier, Ohio.
The initiative builds on Kenyon’s historical emphasis on cross-disciplinary learning and community engagement. It aims to provide the necessary infrastructure for students to integrate these experiences into their academic journey fully. According to a press release, this program is supported by Voorhees’ $25 million donation, which serves as the lead gift for the Third Century Founders campaign. The campaign seeks to raise $100 million for the college’s endowment within two years and has already secured $40 million from Voorhees and other donors.
"As an English major who went on to found a financial services software company, I know well that a Kenyon education prepares you to lead and innovate in any field. I am excited that Kenyon is working to codify these connections for today’s students," said Voorhees, co-founder of Anybill Financial.
Kenyon College reiterates its commitment to offering a range of opportunities for students interested in exploring multiple disciplines such as writing, coding, athletics, and science. The college's connected curriculum spans 50 majors, minors, and concentrations fostering interdisciplinary learning.
