Knox County, OH – On April 26, 2025, Knox County took part in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day. The community disposed of 164.6 pounds of unused, unwanted, and expired medication along with several sharps containers. Specifically, Mount Vernon collected 86 pounds at Knox Public Health and the Mount Vernon Health Center. The Danville Police Department gathered 15.6 pounds, while the Fredericktown Police Department collected 63 pounds.

The Knox Substance Abuse Action Team (KSAAT) expressed gratitude to the Fredericktown Police Department, Danville Police Department, and Mount Vernon Police Department for managing each drop-off location. Volunteers were also thanked for their contributions to the event's success.

For those who missed the event, medications can be anonymously dropped off at year-round drop-boxes located at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown Police Department, Danville Police Department, and Mount Vernon Police Department. Medications should be placed in a clear Ziploc bag without liquids, inhalers, syringes or illegal substances.

Residents may request a free Deterra Drug Deactivation Bag by contacting Knox Public Health at 740-392-2200. A Fall Take Back event is scheduled for October 2025. More information about KSAAT can be found at ksaat.org.
