The Mount Vernon Patriotic Memorial Committee is seeking assistance from local residents to volunteer for the 2025 Memorial Day Parade, scheduled for Monday, May 26.

"The Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade is dedicated to honoring those who gave their lives to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. The parade will be held on Monday, May 26, starting at 10:30 a.m., and we need individuals to help us make it a success," said Mount Vernon Parade Chair Kathleen Hursh, SMSgt. USAF (Ret.), according to a news release.

Hursh emphasized that volunteers will play a critical role in the parade. Tasks include checking in and directing entries and setting up the staging area. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to send an email to khursh@mountvernonohio.org and lhager@mountvernonohio.org with "Volunteer" in the subject line.

The committee has scheduled a volunteer meeting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, in the basement conference room at Mount Vernon City Hall, located at 40 Public Square. During this meeting, parade organizers will discuss various volunteer positions and their requirements.

According to the City of Mount Vernon's website, the city's Patriotic Memorial Committee organizes and oversees the functions and activities of the Memorial Day Parade and service. It also manages other tasks as directed by the mayor, city council, and committee members. The committee collaborates closely with the mayor's office and Knox County Veterans Services.
