The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets softball team secured a decisive victory on Saturday, utilizing a strong third inning to defeat Johnstown-Monroe 10-3.

According to the game report, Mount Vernon scored seven runs in the third inning, demonstrating an aggressive and disciplined offensive strategy. Keely Pollard and Hailey Rudrick each contributed crucial two-run singles, Brooke Dovenbarger added an RBI single, and Jocelyn Scarbury concluded the rally with a two-run home run to right field.

Pollard also performed well as the pitcher for the Yellow Jackets. The senior allowed just five hits and three runs over seven innings while striking out four and walking three.

At bat, Mount Vernon accumulated 11 hits, showcasing depth throughout their lineup. Presli Pope led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Scarbury, Pollard, and Rudrick each drove in two runs. The team exhibited patience at the plate by drawing seven walks, including three from Rylee Myers.

Johnstown-Monroe initially took the lead in the first inning with a two-run homer from Zack but was unable to sustain their momentum. Pitcher Stefanick faced challenges containing Mount Vernon's offense, allowing seven runs over three innings. The Johnnies managed five hits during the game, with contributions from Zack, Bollinger, Wood, Kuhn, and Stefanick.

Mount Vernon aims to maintain this momentum in their upcoming matchup against Granville on Monday.
