Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging opens nominations for senior and community awards

Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. has announced that nominations are now open for the Outstanding Senior and Community Service Awards. These awards aim to recognize the contributions made by older adults and organizations within the community. The announcement was made in a press release on March 7, 2025.

According to the agency, nominations for these awards will remain open until April 4, 2025, at 5 p.m. The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging seeks to honor older adults and organizations that have had a positive impact on their communities. The Advisory Council and Corporate Board will select one senior from each of the nine service counties—Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot—for the Outstanding Senior Award. Additionally, one organization across all counties will be recognized with the Community Service Award. Since its inception in 1976, a total of 415 seniors and 45 organizations have been honored with these awards.

Nominees must be at least 60 years old and reside in one of the eligible counties. They are chosen based on their contributions and accomplishments that promote a positive image of aging. The selection process involves nominations from individuals or organizations within the region, followed by review and approval by the Advisory Council and Corporate Board.

Award recipients will be formally recognized at the annual Outstanding Senior and Community Service Award Ceremony scheduled for August. Applications are available online through the agency's website.

The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging is a nonprofit organization serving Ashland, Crawford, Huron, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Seneca, and Wyandot Counties. For over five decades, it has supported older adults and individuals with disabilities in living independently and safely in their homes. The agency provides various services including in-home care, transportation assistance, nutrition programs as well as support for chronic conditions caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren. It also advocates for older adults while partnering with local organizations to deliver essential services aimed at enhancing independence dignity and quality of life for those it serves.
