Fredericktown Head Coach Jared Pryor presents Cally Carpenter with a personalized basketball following her 1000th career point | Beth Spence

The Fredericktown Freddies girls basketball team (2-0) found a way to grind out a dramatic 34-33 victory over Utica on November 26th, with a strong fourth-quarter performance sealing the win after trailing by four heading into the final frame.

The game was a back-and-forth battle from start to finish. Fredericktown held a slim 15-13 lead at halftime, but Utica (1-1) surged in the third quarter, outscoring the Freddies 12-6 to take a 25-21 advantage into the final period.

However, Fredericktown responded with 13 points in the fourth, led by standout Cally Carpenter, who scored 14 points on the night — including her 1,000th career point early in the game and the game-winning basket to seal the victory.

“We were down most of the second half, but we didn’t give up,” said head coach Jared Pryor. “We kept a positive attitude until the end. It was encouraging to see the kids keep their composure even when it wasn’t going our way and keep battling.”

In addition to Carpenter’s heroics, Mya Bryant provided a strong performance, contributing 8 points and shooting 50 percent from the field. Kennedy Algire also made her mark, adding 6 points to the team’s total.

With the win, Fredericktown remains unbeaten at 2-0, while Utica falls to 1-1 on the season. The Freddies will look to continue their winning ways in their next matchup, building on the resilience they showed in this thrilling win.
