Witches enjoy a night out in Mount Vernon | Stephanie Printz Jones

Downtown Mount Vernon was transformed into a scene of enchantment on October 24, as witches, warlocks, magical creatures, and other shoppers gathered for the 2nd Annual Witches Night Out Shop Hop. Participants were encouraged to don their best witch-themed attire.

According to a Facebook post by Mount Vernon Downtown Merchants, 365 individuals entered a drawing during the event. Jessica Bell emerged as the winner of the witch's gift basket raffled off by the merchants' organization, which sponsored the night out. The organization plans to host a 2025 Annual Witches Night Out Shop Hop.

The event's Facebook page indicated that participating shops and restaurants provided special discounts and promotions for attendees who explored Mount Vernon's streets in search of Halloween-themed treasures. The Mount Vernon Downtown Merchants are seeking feedback from attendees to enhance next year's event. An online survey has been created to gather input on various aspects such as favorite events—ranging from costume contests to extended business hours—and suggestions for improvements or additional activities.

The Mount Vernon News reported that Experience Mount Vernon supported the downtown merchants in organizing this event.

A video post on the downtown merchant's Facebook page revealed that sales of a limited-edition Witches Night Out T-shirt generated $150. These funds will be donated to New Directions Shelter.
