The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women’s volleyball defeated Bethel University as it opened up conference play on Sept. 4.
The No. 22 Lady Cougars remain undefeated with the road win in Mishawaka, Indiana, improving to 13-0. The Pilots of Bethel University are 0-1 in Crossroads league play and move to 9-4 for the season.
The Lady Cougars won a five-set victory against the Pilots. The Lady Cougars lost the first game, 20-25. They took the next two games, 25-21 and 25-15. But then the Pilots evened the games as MVNU lost the fourth game, 18-25. The Lady Cougars regrouped and won the fifth and final game, 15-10, to win the match.
Top performers for the Lady Cougars included: Reagan Nuss – 51 assists, 9 digs, 3 kills; Jaelyn Tang – 12 digs, 2 assists; Libby Evanshine – 20 kills, 4 blocks, 2 digs; Lyssi Snouffer – 18 kills, 9 digs 3 blocks; Faith Maloney – 9 kills, 5 assists, 2 blocks, 2 digs; and Brooke Fatzinger – 5 blocks, 4 kills.
The Lady Cougars returned to action on Sept. 7 at Taylor University. The first serve was scheduled at 3 p.m.
