In front of a crowd full of open umbrellas and wet fans, Utica came into Fredericktown and earned its first win of the season, 18-15.
After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, Fredericktown opened up the second quarter with a touchdown followed directly by a touchdown from Utica, leaving the score knotted at the break.
The second half got started with Utica quarterback Hayden Piper scoring two rushing touchdowns. Freddies quarterback Blake Sipes answered with a touchdown to keep the game close.
A Utica interception sealed the game late.
Piper rushed for 3 touchdowns and had one interception.
Sipes finished the game 9-of-21 for 89 yards throwing, but also ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Both teams head into week 4 with a 1-2 record.
When asked about his team's overall performance Utica’s Head Coach Charles Rowley described his team with profound pride.
“We played gritty, physical, and tough," he said. "That is us as a team and that is what we showed tonight.”
